As part of the national operation "Lève les yeux", reserved for schoolchildren from middle school onwards, students will be invited to attend the conference "Vivre en cabane aux îles Kerguelen" by Laëtitia Therond, director of the Museum of the Polar Worlds.
After a brief history of the shelters used by the first explorers of the Kerguelen archipelago, the students will discover how scientists work today in these lands located between the roaring 40th and the 50th howling. In the four corners of the archipelago, they carry out their missions thanks to shelters and huts that allow them to be closer to their subjects of study: penguins, elephant seals, albatrosses and endangered glaciers.

Laëtitia Thérond is the scientific and cultural director of the Musée des Mondes polaires Paul-Émile Victor. She led five missions to the Kerguelen Islands to carry out, in particular, the archaeological map of the archipelago. With Jean-Yves Besselièvre and Lénaïg L'Aot-Lombart, she is the author of the book Trip to the Austral lands – Crozet & Kerguelen, from their discovery to the present day, published in 2022 (co-edition Locus Solus/Musée national de la marine).
