  • À propos

Within the emblem that constitutes the heart of the city of Montpellier, the prefecture of Hérault has a strong place and identity in the city. Originally the mansion of the Countess of Ganges, the Intendants of the province of Languedoc chose this elegant classical residence to establish the seat of the representation of royal power. It is quite natural that the first Imperial Prefect, Pierre Joseph de Nogaret, elected residence there in 1800, thus retaining to the building the vocation which was his before the Revolution.
