The triumphal arch replaced in 1694 an old medieval gate of the common fence. Built under the direction of the architect Augustin-Charles d'Aviler, the stone work guarantees the access of the city to the promenade du Peyrou. Its carved medallions and inscriptions celebrate the achievements of King Louis XIV, while its summit terrace offers a panoramic view of the Montpellier landscape.
