Guided tours of the castle, the park, the old village and the 14th century church

Departure from the red gates of the castle:

  • Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m.
  • Sunday at 3pm, special visit for children (from 6 years old – accompanied by an adult)
    The Bishops' Castle was built in the 18th century, in a park planted with plane trees and magnolias, on the site of an old feudal castle. It was the residence of the bishops of Montpellier, among whom the notable Joachim Colbert de Croissy, nephew of the great Colbert. The park contains ponds and a large fishpond, a French garden, an orangery. Sold as national property during the Revolution, it is now owned by the municipality and houses the Hofer-Bury museum and the Jean de la Fontaine media library.
    To be seen inside: the music room, known as "à l'italienne", built in the second half of the 18th century and classified as a historical monument, is the jewel of this architectural ensemble.
    Its walls are adorned with fine gypseries representing musical instruments, cherubs, hunting trophies and other subjects in fashion under Louis XV.
    The Jean de la Fontaine multimedia library occupies the part of the castle that housed the kitchens, the dining room and the chapel. The initial destinations of these pieces are still visible in the current premises.
