Guided tour of the Queen’s Garden
The Jardin de la Reine is a historic part of the Jardin des Plantes in Montpellier, the oldest botanical garden in France and one of the first in Europe.
Originally an experimental plot belonging to Pierre Richer de Belleval, a pioneer of modern botany, this garden steeped in history is today, thanks to the association, a cultural place and a space for education on biodiversity: insects, birds, medicinal plants, aromatics... and now tinctorial.

  • À propos

Magical place, green setting in the heart of Montpellier, the Queen’s Garden is part of the historic site of the first Plant Garden, created by Richer de Belleval in 1595\. It constituted the part reserved for the experiments of the botanists. Richer de Belleval, pioneer of a modern botany, precursor of agronomy concepts, will be studied, taken up, discussed by the European botanical community, from Carl Von Linné to Olivier de Serres After 200 years of closure to the public, it became property of the City in 2013\. The garden has been listed as a historical monument since 2009\. Managed by an association, this garden steeped in history has become a cultural and educational place on biodiversity: insects, birds and medicinal or aromatic plants... and recently, on tinctorial plants. Recently, cultural events have taken place in May, June, and September.
